there is a coin machine at the bank i work at and at the end of the day last week i went over to prove it out and found this in the reject cup. 1838 large cent. its definitely beat up a little but it made me happy

What? Someone threw it in a vending machine? It's much bigger than cents that they use now in America.

    Coinstar not a vending machine.

Why not? It 'vends' negotiable paper for coin dumps, at a (high) percentage fee. Is CoinStar NOT selling? Is their product not a service, a convenience? Please explain your assertion.

Full disclosure, please: are you employed by, or do you own stock in, CoinStar?

A Real Treasure; as much for the back-story as the coin!
Congratulations, and no small amount of envy!

You probably made yourself a record in 2013 for finding the oldest coin in circulation. This is just crazy. The oldest coin that I can find here is 1966 and they are disappearing very fast.

    Wow, great find!
Keeping checking the CoinStar because they will spit out all silver coins as well. I've found several pre-1964 dimes in the reject bin in the machine at the local grocery store.

Lol no stock in coinstar, (i kinda dislike them) going point on the vend aspect. When i think of a vending machine i think of candy and chips. Dont get me wrong i have gotten some good finds at work. I think of it as a money changer.

When my girlfriend was a teenager she said that her and her friends took old coins from her grandmother and put them in the coin machine and when some rejected they just left them there.. omg.
