Hello everybody. I was looking through a jar of change I use to have when I still lived at home and came across this 1922 Canadian cent. Is this a harder to find coin? Also, when they mint these, do they do the same thing the U.S. Mint does with the reverse turned the opposite way as the obverse? Now let me see if I can upload these pictures.
Awesome coin! George V As a matter of economy the Canadian government introduced in 1920 a small cent similar in size and composition to that of the United States. The large cents were not immediately withdrawn, but were allowed to circulate until the late 1930's. The small coins lacked rim denticals, the first instance of this in the Canadian decimal series. The obverse design was retained while a new reverse design, featuring two maple leaves, was used. Imperial State Crowned Portrait, Two Maple Leaves Design 1920-1936 Mintage: 1,243,635 Composition: .955 copper, .030 tin, .015 zinc Weight: 3.24 grams
These prices I am quoting are in Canadian dollars. G-4 12.00 VG-8 16.00 F-12 20.00 VF-20 35.00 EF-40 60.00 AU-50 150.00 MS-60 Brown 325.00 MS-63 Red/Brown 1,000.00
U.S. coins are minted in "coin alignment", in which the the obverse and reverse are upright if you turn the coin over top to bottom. Most Canadian coins are minted in "medal alignment", in which the obverse and reverse are upright if you turn the coin over side to side.
These are slightly more up to date values from CCN trends. VG-8 18.00 F-12 22.00 VF-20 35.00 EF-40 55.00 Au-50 110.00 I would grade yours as a VF. Bill
Thank you very much for the prices and info guys! Looks like I'll hold on to this one even though it isn't in the best condition. Really not that much wear but it is discolored and dirty. Thanks again!
