..nothing old but it is silver. A 1923 and 1944 mercs. And 1951 plus 1957 rosies. Plenty of wheaties too. Looks like the 44 had a slight double punch on the date. The back of the 23 looks nice.
nice find Thats great, I really need to get my detector out and hunt. I have yet to find a decent place to look for older coins. Congrats on your finds.
i've never found any silver with my detecor before. where do you guys find silver? i have been searching for about a year now and found nothing but memorial cents, 1 wheat cent (1957), a few new nickels, new and state quarters, no half dollars, no silver dollars. have any of you found a half dollar. i never had or heard of people finding them.
Where do you go searching? Its all LOCATION. You have to be able to have a detector that goes at least 6 inches down. The older coins are (90%) of the time in the 5 to 8 inch range. You can get shallower old coins near old trees and in some ground conditions. Old yards where the ground has not been moved around, old coins are kinda shallow. I have found about 15 silver half dollars in my 8 years of detecting. Most are Walkers only 2 Franklins and 5 Barber Halfs. Have never found a silver dollar. I have a buddy who just started detecting and he has already found 2 silver dollars. A peace and a morgan. Go figure.
Jim C: Nice finds. I used to find a good bunchof silver with my detector, but finds have dried up lately. I guess that I have to find some new locations. Best find this weekend was a nice 7 1/2 inch silver bracelet. In a school yard, marked Italy, 925. A note: the 1944 'double punch' is probably strike doubling, een Breen dosen't list a double die, but he was often wrong on stuff.
