Picked up these three - two older PCGS holders and one raw from the "bullion" pile, although at least it was in a cardboard holder. It's now in a plastic Marcus holder. Your thoughts on this one? Unc or AU? PCGS older slabs:
Would love to see the reverse on the unslabbed one! It is VERY nice. I do see the smallest bit of wear along the highpoints of the hairline. So assuming the reverse is equal in caliber its a solid AU58. honestly depending on the reverse it could bump to ms60 because its fantastic eye appeal.
I'm going to assume the raw one has nice luster since the other two MS ones looks kinda plain due to your pics. But we would need to see the reverse to give an accurate grade.
Thanks for the replies, folks. I will get a picture of the reverse of the 1879 when I get home. Camera is an old Canon S3-IS.
I disagree! There is not enough jump in value between 62 & 63. Leave it in the old rattler. If you decided to put it up for auction, it would probably generate more interest in the old slab. Chris
The fact that you got that coin for melt out of a bullion basket is simply incredible.I give it a AU58*
Although I think its a beautiful coin, i can not see it being graded MS since there is quite obvious wear along the hairline. Hense the AU58*
