Look how nice the 1896 Indian head is. Fun time again. Lots of wheaties with the oldest being a 1913.
WOW Jim, being from MI and all, you'll of course help me with advise if I want to get me one of them right? LOL. Good stuff for sure !! The wife and I camp and fish so much, it would be a blast to have a pair of metal detectors and go out huntin together !!! Thanks for the post !!
Wow....that IHC is in great condition for this sort of find. Was it protected in any way when you found it?
Jim... The 13-s is in a wd-40 bath until tonight. Not lookin good, I'll get a soft brush on it and then get it into the ultrasonic cleaner my wife has for her jewlery later. I'll be sure to post pics of the progress. Aj
I am assuming this is from the museum site? Those are some nice pieces, I too would lone to know if the IHC was raw in the ground or in something to keep it in such nice condition. Thanks for showing your finds ...
beats me! i went detecting in a park for over 3 hours today and found a 1977D cent, 1997D dime, 1963D cent, 1996P quarter, 1996P dime, 2006P dime, 2003D dime, and a flattened cent from a souviner shop from a mine a few miles away. and a SILVER arrowhead necklace! thats the first piece of jewlery found. you can tell its silver becuase of its weight. the thing i would like to know, how do you find old coins!:kewl:
Nope, the indian head was in the ground all those years. Our Michigan soil keeps the coins real nice. IF they are not in soil that has been fertilized over the years or a park. Most lawn finds, the coins are preserved very well. The other two came out just as nice after the peroxide bath but this one was in far better condition when dropped years ago. You can see what it looked like before the bath in the picture with the 3 Indian heads above.
