Okay found three coins at first glance appear to be pennies. Two of them have a face of a women with the name Elizabeth II. On the back of one says "new penny" and the other says "one penny". The other coin is more difficultand I am hoping I am getting this right, "eire" on one side and 1P on the other with some odd design on both sides. Got any suggestions as where they are from? My daughter has money from many places but this is a first for me and not sure what to tell her it came from.

Welcome!! Without pictures it's hard to say for sure. Queen Elizabeth's face is on about half the world's coins

The other one I believe is from Ireland.

Éireis is the Irish name for Ireland. Post some images if you could please, it would be helpfull :)

The coin with Queen Elizabeth II on it is a British coin.As it is inscribed '1 New Penny',it is from the coinage of 1971-81.The other coin is definitely an Irish Penny. Both Great Britain & Ireland officially changed to decimal currency on the same day - 15th of February 1971. Both of these coins are 1p. coins as opposed to 1d.
    coins.

Actually Becky pictures aren't necessary. As Aidan points out, the "New Penny" must be British, Eire is Ireland in Celtic, and the harp is on all Irish coins. The lack of a country name on the Elizabeth II coins also peg them as British.

I knew the Irish coin, but I didn't think about no country name on the coin making it automatically British, which makes sense. But he didn't even give us dates, so I thought maybe he was missing a country name too. :smile

British coins always have the monarch's titles in Latin. They used to have 'BRIT' in the inscripition, but on decimal coins, this is missing.
