I got some bills from the bank to look through, and I was shocked to see a series 1963 B Barr note! The conidition is not the best, but it's not horrible. There are a few small stains along the edge, and some creasing, so it's probably not worth more than face, but still a very interesting find! How often are these things found? I heard that bills were destroyed after 22 months normally, and anything from before 1995 is destroyed regardless of condition. I wonder how this one managed to avoid the fed for 38 years?
Yep, I agree.... Some kid took it for pop momey..LOL That my friends is why they make safes! Although the value may be minimal, still a neat find. RickieB
Nice find BigH. I still find the occasional 1995 note but been a long while since I've seen a Barr in circulation.
Awesome find! I have only found one myself too, always interesting to find old notes in circ. Nice find! :thumb: Phoenix
When Barr left office after just 30 days any people thought note with his signature would be rare and so they hoarded them. I'm sure there are still plenty of hoards out there that have bee in hiding since 1968. I know I still ran into them regularly in accumulations i was asked to look at as recently as five years ago.
nice find! btw, the feds only destroy the old style notes of $5,$10,and $20 bills 1995 and older. the $1,$2,$50,and $100 bills you can still find 1995 and older.:secret:
Thanks for the comments, guys! It seems I'm having a run of good luck lately. I got $99 in $1 bills from the bank today, and I found three series 1995 $1 bills, and one 1988 A! As usual, they're folded, but I still like 'em. If you get them for face, it certainly can't hurt to save them. Here's some pictures of my Barr:
$1 each. As I tell everyone who asks, roll and strap searching is far from a profitable hobby, but it's probably the only one that doesn't cost you anything.
