..at an old home site that I have been eyeballing. Went and asked permission and it was granted. There is no mint mark on the back, darn. First year of the Barber half. Found the 1941 merc (pic) there along with a lot of wheaties. Fun stuff.
Nice find. Here in Hawaii most people search on the beach for jewelry etc. I go to old school grounds. I look mostly for silver coins and mercury and roosevelt dimes are quite common but not in great numbers. Even the elementary school I attended is supposedly cleaned out but me and my brother still find silver there. Heck it may even be the ones I lost as a kid. I never could keep dimes in my pocket LOL!! Every now and then we find the flying eagle quarters (standing liberty). As a kid I used those for lunch money and even candy at the local store when I could sneak an extra one from mom....sigh....regrets LOL!! By the way, I use a Whites spectrum (old model). By the way, I have never been lucky enough to find anything larger than a quarter unless you consider one time when I did go to the beach, got a hit, dug it up and it was a pair of jeans (rivets must have caused the hit). Checked the pockets and found 4 one dollar bills hehheh woohooo.
jimmie, We need to get together sometime. Would you be willing to show me the ropes of metal detecting?
Sure, but there is really no magic trick to it. I believe 90% of successful detecting is...Location, Location, Location. Thats why I love old homes to detect. Knowing your detector real well also give you a slight advantage. If ya wanna hook up some time let me know. Jim
