Well, I finally found a bank in Arizona that had $140 in half dollar rolls. I am very happy to report that I found 16 Silver halves, including 3 1967's, 2 1968's, 1969's, 1966's, 2 Franklin Halves from 1954 and 1953-s, and MY FIRST Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1945-S!!!! YAY!! I was so happy when I found it! Then I went to my coin dealer and sold the extras, keeping the ones I needed to supplement or upgrade my collection! Anybody else find anything interesting lately? ~AJ
I had rotten luck this week. I sorted 2 boxes of halves (my bank will only order them for me if I order $1000 at a time) yesterday and I found only 3 40% silver kennedy's oh well, it's all about averages and my average so far this year is pretty good, so I'll just have to try again later.
well, i found a bank that has some silver halves, but they only have 2 rolls left if the first two i bought, no silver was found, but i did fill in alot of missing dates
good finds! That has been about the high end of my average for the last year or so; 1 silver coin per 5 to 10 rolls searched or about .5% to 1% of the coins. Some boxes a little better and a few much worse.
Good finds all. I agree Cavetroll, averages are about 1 coins per 5 rolls. Latley however, may averages have been up. Mostly 40% silver, but I'm getting 2 or 3 1964s evaery week.
Last month I went through a stretch where every roll I got (about 200 in all) contained 1998-Ps, every stinking coin. They were circulated too so I assume they might have come from a casino or some such place. About 4 or 5 months ago I went through a nice 2 week stretch where I was getting rolls (maybe 75-100 total) that had lots of silver in them, a few of them 5 or 6 coins per roll, including several Franklins and a couple of Walkers. I was coming home from work almost every night with more rolls to open. My girlfriend thought I was crazy until I showed her what I was finding. I actually put 20-25 rolls aside to keep and open during a dry spell, but I couldn't resist and opened them anyway. I found something like 30 or 35 silver coins. I'd love to have that happen again! My last 25 rolls had only one 1969. I go to the bank tomorrow for another 50 rolls .
I picked up 50 more rolls today on my lunch hour. There was a new teller at one of my bank branches I visited. I was introduced to her by my usual teller and she started asking me lots of questions about what I was doing with "all of those rolls of coins." I'll give her credit: She actually spotted a silver half on the end of one roll. I just shrugged when she pointed it out. I also dropped one roll as I was placing it into a mint bag. When it hit the floor it partially tore open, revealing at least one silver coin. I hope that is a good sign. Still 3 hours to go at work!
Told this story when I first joined this site but it is still my best hit. This past December I purchased $720 from a bank in Terry, MS and hit the mother load. I found 104-1964 kennedy halves, 84 Franklins halves, 30 Liberty halves and $34.50 in 40% silver kennedy halves. Of the 104-1964 Kennedy halves I found two rolls to be bright BU. Most times I hit nothing but a coin or two but this is one of those rare finds and it keeps me seaching even more
