Hey - I found this in a bunch of rolls. I was getting discouraged I hadn't found anything good in a long time and bam, I got this. I'm sending it here for some expert analysis and confirmation that it is a CUD error. Interesting thing on this CUD is that it covers up almost half the second 't' in 'trust' and it also has the ridge line from the stamp - or so it appears. Again, CUDs are not my specialty but I kind like this one. I may even keep this one - but anybody have any idea what it is worth? The penny itself is in remarkably good condition - close to what I would consider BU, but again I'm not an expert.

Thanks for your help - Esky

    It's a cud and it's worth $5 - $10.

I'm curious as to how one determines the value of a CUD? I'm actually starting to like them as I find some - There possibly can't be a list because CUDs would be those one in a million type of things - but on the other hand, condition of coin, etc. must factor into it right? :) ... any and all advice would be greatly welcome. Thanks :) Esky

There are published guides to cuds. There is The Cud Book by Sam Thurman and Arnie Margolis, followed up by The Cud Book Supplement by the same authors. There are probably close to a thousand catalogued cuds, with a large number that remain uncatalogued. As errors go, cuds are pretty common. Value is determined largely by size, with year, denomination, and condition contributing to the price. A 40% cud recently sold on eBay for $122.

Mike, is this a cud, or a retained die break? Just curious as it appears to be part of the rim shifte in with the cud?

    Thanks in advance...still learning :)
