Been collecting coins from coin rolls for almost six months. Got this about 2 months ago and didn't think anything of it, just added it to my album as the new 1960-p. Last week I found out the value of full stair or "FS" and decided to check a few of my coins. Saw this and couldn't believe it! Now there is a minor nick on the stairs, I'm wondering if I should send this in to be graded or no. Also wondering the 20180201_214933.jpg 20180201_215038.jpg 20180201_214943.jpg 20180201_215038.jpg value range.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Damn you found that in circulation? It looks too good to be true :)

That's one amazing find! I'd submit it if I were you since full-step nickels from 1960 are generally scarce. It can be worth at least $110 if it gets the FS (full steps) designation and I think this coin has the potential to do so.

Be careful handling it! Try not to touch it and if you must, hold it by the rim and use gloves.

It is a proof nickel. Value around 1-5$

I wasn't sure. I thought it might be proof, and the full steps designation is not for proofs. Only regular strikes. I don't think you could find a regular strike 1960 in circulation with full steps.

The square rims, mirrored surfaces, and lack of planchet flaws kind of give this one away. A very nice looking Nickel. Great Find!

It's definitely a proof. You can pick these up for a couple bucks.

Wow, nice find in the wild! This is why people still search - you never know when someone will inherit a bunch of coins, and without knowledge just dump them back into "the system" to be found by coin hunters. Congrats!

A nice find in circulation. As others have said, it's a proof so worth $2-$5. Since you paid $0.05 for it, you made a profit of up to 100%!;)

100% profit on a nickel is .10 cents total.

    5c to $5 is actually a 10,000% (100x) increase - you're welcome :D

    .05 to .10 = 100% increase. .05 to 1.00 = 1500% increase.

    .05 to 5.00 = 5 times 1500, or a 7,500% increase.

You got one formula correct, .05-.10 =100%.
The rest doesn't look right at all.
If you make 1.00 on a nickel that is 20x .05.(2000%)
    If you make 5.00 on a nickel that is 100x .05. (10,000%)

Talking increase, not multiples. If you write it out longhand, like I did, you will see.

You are adding 100% with each step increase of 5 cents, beginning with 10 cents.

At a value of 50 cents, the increase is only 45 cents and is equivalent to an increase of 800%.
Try it yourself. At a value of $1.00, the increase in percentage is 1500%. Multiply that by 5 and you get 7500% for a value of $5.00. The coin's value has only increased $4.95.

CORRECTION! I just found an error in my longhand (up too late, tired...reading CT).

Turns out there is a 1900% increase for each $1.00 step of increased value, meaning 3800% at a $2.00 value and so on. $5.00 would be a 9500% increase.

My effusive apologies to Michael K and everyone at Coin Talk:oops::oops::oops:

Michael K you were right...it looked wonky cuz it was wonky.

Michael K was closest to correct (my longhand scratchin' sucked). The nickel would have to attain a value of $5.05 to be a 10,000% profit.

(It only took me 3 tries but I finally worked it out when I wasn't sleepy, and, as they say, the third times a charm)

At this point, I would buy the coin for $5.00 !!!! A very nice coin btw, wish I had found it.
