Hi everyone, I found this in one of my nickel rolls today. I've looked around online and haven't found anything like it. I know it's not a coin but I was wondering if anyone else has run across something like it before. Thanks!
What does the reverse look like? Is it the exact same thickness, weight and size as a nickel? If it's not a medal or token of some sort, it could be a modern "hobo" nickel, aka an art project/coin carving on a nickel.
It's the exact same size/weight of a nickel and the reverse is the same as the obverse. I'm thinking it's a token of some sort because there is nothing to show that it used to be a nickel.
I liked that long jumper post so much that I will feed into this while I go look for medals on the net to give a real answer but... It looks like a kid with his Ipod that is completely unaware of the quicksand he has walked into.
Well for a more educational guess. It may be a school item for a book reader club. We have kids that come on the bus with awards for reading books. One of my kids was in the paper for reading 100 books or something like that last year. It might be something like that but the book is awfully small. I tried to find another for about 20 or so minutes but found nothing like it.
I somehow knew this would happen. That's why I didn't say "It looks like a child praying to god" or something like that. Forget I said anything.
Thanks for looking. The best I could find was some sort of religious token too. Strange the things that end up in rolls. I thought the machines would sort that stuff out. Oh well, it'll go in my "odds n' ends" baggy.
Now you can be 100% sure. http://www.stjude.org/stjude/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=f87d4c2a71fca210VgnVCM1000001e0215acRCRD
Very interesting find. Initially, I thought it was most intriguing, but it's even moreso now that we know what it is.
