    Nice looking coin.

At least his name is on the flan.

These are not easy to find in any condition. There is usually only a hand full on Vcoins at any one time. Seller asking 875 plus shipping. Not sure if that is a fair price or not. Thanks for any advice.

He's expensive, no matter what. Seeing that his name is on the flan is a big win, as I already stated, it's usually off-flan. Portrait is decent, reverse stinks, but typical. You're also paying a small premium for it being slabbed too. You could always send an $800 offer, to the dealer, sometimes they might bite or lower it a bit more, if you're serious.

I bought it. This is a hard one to find where the image is good and the name is legible. Now I am one JC away from a set.

@edteach , It is a nice coin, and you have already made the decision after many considerations as you say. However, given the price I cannot help but ask if buying from an auction would not (have been) the better choice, price-wise? There are 5 Otho Securitas examples currently on numisbids.com in various grades.

I checked on that site. I am not sure how the auctions work there as to how to check sold auctions to see what things go for. Any idea what coins similar to the one I posted go for? If its enough I could check to see if there is a return policy from where I bought it from. Is this sit as reputable as Vcoins for good sellers? Not an eBay type of you have to watch your back site?

You did well, slabbed and all. The prices seem crazy nowadays for these, I paid €340 from Naumann for mine years ago (and it seemed a lot at the time), green crud included..

You'll get a lot of advice about using auctions, but there are numerous caveats involved here. The first is patience and the second is luck.

I paid about $1,600 for the Choice VF example I have posted on this site. It had been in an NGC holder. I have to slab tag and have no reason to doubt that’s it’s the same coin.

When @Orfew upgraded his Otho, I was happy to pick up his old example at an AMCC auction for $365. The main criterion for me was that I had to see a little bit of detail in that wig. Just a couple of wrinkles. And it would be good to see most of the obverse legend. This one checked both boxes. I am happy to have it.

Although mine has most of the name off flan, the overall quality of both portrait and reverse are so good that I could easily compromise

    Amazing example, @Cucumbor .

This one cost me about 800 euros some 12 years ago.

Like @Cucumbor, my example is missing most of the "OTHO". But I liked the bust well enough, and beggars can't be choosers!

Ch VF 4/3 Scratch, $1080 in 2022 if that helps.

It arrived today. Its a keeper. Now I don't want to rush into the JC coin. Only one left so I want to find one that really works for me.

Just browsing through this older thread: have doubts with at least one of the coins shown; maybe tooled or even fake. What do you think? Of course, I can be wrong.

Here is a real SECURITAS one for comparisson:
