My coin instinct kicked in when I saw a glimmering penny staring at me in the "share a penny cup" at a store checkout. I picked it up and it happened to be 1964 penny in INCREDIBLE condition with RAZOR SHARP detail for a penny of that year. So I adopted it and asked a coue Facebook groups. Aparently it's a proof penny worth a few thousand dollars! I have a keen eye for 1964 nickels but I inherited a coin collection recently and want to know what I have.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but average proof 1964 cents are only worth a couple of dollars. This one would be an impaired proof, you can see fingerprints and small scratches. it would be worth under a dollar, probably only a few cents.

Here's two 64's with some nice color and no tiger stripes. I'll let these go for $500 each. You can sell them on facebook for $1000 each and make a nice profit.

Yes, but the OP seems to like shiny glimmering coins!.
Ok, I'll take a $1.85 off the asking price because they are not business strikes.

A common 1964, billions were made. Yours is a nice one, minus the fingerprints, to fill a hole in an album.

When silver was on its run nearly a decade ago now, I broke up more sets than I care to remember and ended up dumping a ton of cents and nickels into circulation. I’m certainly not the only one to have done this, but who knows; if it helped draw someone into the hobby it was worth it (this is just an unassociated side point).

As the others have said I’m sure this is sadly disappointing, but we’ve all been there and anyone claiming otherwise is lying. Since you seem to be interested in coins, please stick around the forum and avoid that Facebook page (and YouTube) in the future. You’ll learn a lot and perhaps next time you will be lucky.
