Went detecting at an old farm house and had great success on some old coins.. In one hole was the 1855 holed large cent along with the (fatty) 1863 and 1868 indian heads stuck together. Fun dig that was. Also found 7 additional Indian heads with the dates of 1867, 1879, 1881, 1883, 1885 and two 1891s. Also got a 1925 mercury dime. It was a fun yard. The 1867 needs a couple more baths and will clean up nice. The 1879 is in the nicest condition though. Fun stuff.

Very cool finds, it always amazes me what can be found in the ground. Every time I hear something like this I want to go out and buy a metal detector; but I know that I'd probably only use it once or twice.

I bought one from Walmart.com, tested it out for a couple months, then returned it to a store because it was a POS. Two months of free use!

That's a sweet find, man. Still seems kind of cold to go detecting today, but maybe not. I went out when we had that 60 degree day the other week, but it was dismal. Where abouts in MI was that farmhouse?

Or maybe everybody and their mother would have one and most of the good finds would be long gone. ;)

Very interesting finds. The 1879 intriques me. There seems to be very little or no circulation on it, like it's been there since 1880 or so but it's not nearly as corroded as some of the other coins. If you only knew their stories.
