This week I plucked a 1942D from change, mintage under 14 million. Not worth much but it was a fun find. Where but in Jeffersons can you still find low mintage coins in change? Halves maybe, if they circulated. A 1932 cent after a ton of roll searching maybe, but pretty unlikely in change.
A little story... When I first got back into collecting three years ago or so, I took my short list of missing jeffersons to my coin dealer - there were about five coins I need to complete my whitman folder and one was the 1942-D My dealer said that for a long time it wasn't realized how difficult it was to find that coin. It's only "recently" that this come to light. According to him, they are scarcer than the mintage figures indicate. Just a little Saturday morning story while you're sipping your chocolate milk.
