Had a great box of halves from the bank that I searched yesterday and found 7 64 Kennedys, 2 Walkers, 32 40% Kennedys (65 - 69) and 1 1976 s Kennedy. What is the silver content of that 76? Is it 40%? All I found on it was that it was "silver clad" which is the same description for the 65 - 70 Kennedys, but no declaration of the percentage. I'm almost positive that this is another 40% find, but just looking for some verification. Thanks.
Hmmmmm, I looked in the Redbook and didn't see the 40% mentioned (hence my question), all I saw was "silver clad". I was almost positive it meant 40%, but wasn't sure. I guess I missed it. Thanks for answering my question anyway. Yes, HToad, it was quite exciting to open all those rolls with that much silver in one box...
You didn't miss it, it's not said that way. But if you look closely you will see that there is a different composition type that results in the same thing. When the Red Book does not list the actual silver or gold weight for a coin then it is the same as the previous coin of the same series.
Also it does list the composition of the layers, and if you compare them to the composition listed for the 1965 - 70 halves (Which are also not called 40% silver) you'll see they are exactly the same.
