I don’t recall ever getting consecutive bills from an ATM before. I probably have but just don’t remember. Sure it’s not uncommon, but thought I would share.
Agreed. The last time I saw that many consecutive serial numbers I worked as a teller at a bank when we got holiday money. And these are definitely spenders!
There was someone who regularly advertised in Numismatic News who was looking for any uncirculated notes with "25" in them and paying a premium. But for the life of me I don't know where I hid his name and addy.
Never seen anything larger than a $20 from ATMs either. But I have gotten consecutive numbers before. I go to my bank and buy new consecutive straped bundles somewhat often of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20 and sooner or later $50 and 100s.
I think 9 of these 10 are consecutive. (Not ATM) Your numbers would be good if they started with around 6 or 7 9's in a row. Sometimes the numbers won't get that high. If they are loading the ATM with stacks of new bills, it isn't unusual for them to be consecutive.
When I worked at the bank I would stay away from putting new bills in the ATM. They are sticky sometimes and hand out 2 when it thought it was only one.
At a company I used to work for, which sometimes had to pay for things in cash, they would flip every other new note so the obverses and reverses were back to back and wouldn't stick. But as for the ATM, those bricks are machine counted, and they just load in a stack sometimes and they come out consecutively. There must be some mechanism inside which separates the new sticky bills before sending it out the slot. Weight, thickness. Each bill weighs 1 gram.
I got a bunch of 5's in change from Walmart the other day. I thought I had 3 but there were 3 more stuck together, I had to separate them between other bills so I did not make a here is 5 but actually ten or 15 mistake,
Hefty withdrawal! $700. ATM's around SoCal have been giving out $50s and $20s for a couple of years now. I've seen some ATM's inside a Wells Fargo Bank that can dispense any combo of 1s,2s,5s,10s,20s,50s and 100s. Pretty cool.
I didn’t know about the scanner for thickness but did know they travel along a rubber belt and a stepped tear that could help separate. We did have some from time to time in the reject bin. But never pulled them out of the reject bin stuck together still. Probably broke apart when the dropped into the tray.
Needed to deposit some money in another account and I don’t have checks for this account.lol. Gives me a reason to go to banks and get coins for searching too.
Unfortunately my bank seldom loads new bills into the ATM due to the problem of the bills sticking together. No $50s yet; maybe 2050??
I posited this question to my bank manager awhile back. He said they are similar to vending and change making machines but higher end with a different software program.
CapitalOne Bank also has the mix options for all these denominations. I get $20.00 in $1.00 bills to check for Fancy Serial Numbers every Friday.. If I don't find any I give them all to my daughter.
