    Hi,

I'm wanting to find some pretty foreign silver coin that I will like. This is simply a thread for suggestions of coin types, not a wanted ad. I like foreign silver coins (e.g., not U.S.A) that have nice luster, are AU or higher, and are available for under $50...again, just wanting suggestions about individual coins that may fit my criteriæ.

    Thanks!
    Ben

I don't collect foreign coins, but I would like to. I enjoy some of the older canadian quarters, and swiss coinage. I think the silver swiss francs are beautiful!

Canadian commemoratives would be a good choice or Mexican silver Onza's.

Both of these are under $50.

Thanks for the replies so far guys! One thing I forgot to mention is while I love bullion coins, I prefer older coins. I still love bullion, and just might get me an Onza!

In my opinion, of particular beauty are the coins from Italy, France, and Poland.

Depending on your definition of "older" you will be hard pressed to find high grade silver coins for < $50 before the 1940s or 1950s.

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at those. No, I typically don't collect ones before the '40's and '50's, and that's fine with me. :)

OP, the world literally is your oyster. I would buy the KM books for 19th and 20th century and see all of the possibilities. They are so numerous as to be insane. Now, if you want 19th century thaler sized coins in AU that will seriously test your $50 spending limit, but short of that there literally are thousands of choices.

I kind of dig Mexican issues, and also collect Thai, but there are just so many other great choices I really don't even know where to start.

Late 1800's Hercules 5 Francs from France would fit your requirements nicely. If you want something more modern, the 10 Francs from the mid 60's is the same design.

I like Mexican 8 reales, but they are getting pricey. For some reason everyone else likes them too. Get one with some cool chop marks on it!

Yeah I agree with the Mexican Coin idea, there are a ton to choose from. I like the CUAUHTEMOC and you don't have to get a toned one like mine either. Sorry about the font. :D
