To all of you that are new to this wonderful hobby. Do not worry about how much you do or do not know about coins. We all started out as novices. No one is born with the knowledge. Some of us have chosen to study and learn about coins for lots of different reasons. Some of us have now chosen to share this knowledge through this and other forums. I don't believe that anyone here will claim to be a complete expert, but all are willing to share what they can. We all meet other people that will know more than we do. We each strive to learn more so that we can help others. Coin collecting is one of the oldest hobbies and brings together many great people. Most of all, have fun in the hobby.
Well after my experience with Q. David Bowers, I thought it was appropriate. I have been a collector since my youth, and worked in coins for about 12 years now. I had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Bowers this past summer, and he is truly an expert in this field. I felt like a complete novice. Not anything he did, just my lack of knowledge compared to his. He is a wonderful man, and sets a very good example of what we can do in the hobby.
QDB is my idol. I really admire his writing, his attitude towards the hobby and, of course, his knowledge. Whenever I read an article of his or a book, I find myself thinking "That is what the hobby is all about." And, from every account I have ever heard, he is one heck of a nice guy. -- Stujoe
He is a great guy. There are few that have reached his level in this hobby. His dedication to education is a good example of how we as collectors should view our hobby.
