Some of my nickels to show off, not much, but they are mine. Presenting: My 1956 Proof nickel, got it for $4. Possibly a black beauty? Not sure, don't know much about them. 44 P silver war nickle, amazing luster I would say. Got it for $20. Anyone want to offer a grade? A 58 P that I found in a roll, thought it was in nice condition, but what really grabbed my eye was it had some nice black gold toning going on. Might be plating, but I think it is more toning. Might not show in pics: And last, but not least, the key to the Jefferson series, may I present, the 50 D nickel! Got it for $15. Has a nice toning going on as well I would say. Well, those are my nickels, have a few others I will show later, thanks for taking a peek! Phoenix
Phoenix. Very nice son they look great, as for the 1956 the black beauty coins were only minted in 1958 and 1959 I have never seen a black beauty for 1956 not saying there is none just never heard of any. Bruce.
Thanks! Yours is a nice looker also. :thumb: Thanks Kevin! Lol, I know. I want to expand a little more to my set, only need a few more for my circulated 38-59 set. That would look sharp, I just might. Will cost a little moolah though, lol. But that's an idea. Wow, that one is a stunner. Didn't think it was, but it still is a nice looking one. How much would the one like the one you posted go for? Just curious. Thanks for all the replies so far! Phoenix
sorry, dont mean to appear dumb, but what is a Black Beauty? and i dont mean the racing horse with the similar moniker ...
That picture I posted is one. In a nutshell it is Proof Jefferson nickel that has toned to such a dark blue color that it almost looks black. Proof Jeff's from the late '50s and early '60's are famous for their toning. They can turn just about any color of the rainbow. I have them in purple, green, blue, pink, rose, yellow - you name it. I bought a group of 200 of them once - they are about the only coins I still own. I always planned on giving them away, may have to do that soon They are very hard to photograph and yet capture the color, but you can see a few of them on this gentleman's web site - HERE
