For my future reference about die deterioration and the doubling it can cause

I wanted to see if I was correct about the features of this 1980-D dime. I have some pictures with arrows pointing to the fields I want to know about:
    1. The top halves of both the "L" and "I" in "LIBERTY" looks to be split but flat maybe due to die wear or PMD.
    2. The inside of the upper loop of "B" appears to be doubled but flat which I think is due to die deterioration.
Thank you in advance for your help, I really do appreciate it. I have already looked at a couple of websites that have information about doubling and I was wanting to know if I was close to being correct.:)

I think you are correct on both accounts when you attribute what you see at die wear or die deterioration. It is also evidenced in the other letters.

Thanks lonegunlawyer! I'm starting to understand what I'm looking at!:thumb:

Anytime. With die deterioration, the letters will start to look mushy, stretched, and/or appear doubled (in an inconsistent or fade out type look).
