    I think you're dealing with at least one bidder who likes to collect beat-up coins. Some people have a weakness for them. It's like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, I guess.

    I've seen worse for sale in dealer cases. Not just a hole, but ones with multiple holes. Even though that look like they have sat in some really strong acid for many years that sell for $20. Date would be 183? or something.

    I dont think that it sold for more than its worth to be honest. Ugly coin? Yep.. Key date Yep. I see that date at dealers in the 75-90 range in good. I would say that whoever ended up with it got a decent deal for 47 bucks. it does fill a hole that most collectors would not have a shot at Filling.
