Post your FOG (Found on Ground) coin finds! I personally don't have any, really... :bigtears:

What if someone threw a double eagle on the ground, thinking it was fake? Anything is possible!

How would you FOG hunt? Maybe walking around a city for six hours to see if anyone dropped any coins?

Better yet, why not spend the day lifting run off grates, jumping down inside and fish out coins. Yummy...

Can't claim any good numismatic finds on the ground, but I used to find paper money on the ground with alarming frequency. I used to go out more, specifically to dark bars that some of which were cash-only. It was a rare night when I DIDN'T find at least a buck or two on the floor.

I've found every current US denomination on the ground, except for a $2 bill, dollar coin, and half dollar. Biggest score was a wad of $550 in the gutter below a parking meter. Also found $100 outside of an old workplace, and a $50 outside of a bar. A few years ago, I added it up and I found more than $800 on the ground - enough to pay a month's rent.

Does a ATM machine count ?

Went to the bank and used the ATM and it start spitting out 20 dollar bills . I look around and said " What The Hell " this can't be right, most be my lucky day . No way this can happen again, so in went the ATM card and out came another 500 dollars . Well, the next day the bank called my house and said, bring use back that money .... My win fall was shortly lived .. Lol ....

I've actually been keeping track of what I find on the ground for about the past year. I was tempted to do this after I read this article:

    http://www.tbo.com/ap/offbeat2/man-collects-21000-in-coins-donates-to-animal-rescue-20141001/

I obviously haven't gone to the lengths this man did, but was curious if it is actually possible to find a decent amount. Well in the past year I have found just over $12 worth of coins, most of which are cents. No old finds, silver, etc. Just modern change. So I think it's safe to say I won't be quitting my day job anytime soon.

When you find a busy intersection that has a bank with drive-in facilities on each of the four corners, keep crossing the streets while looking straight down toward the pavement. Sooner or later, you are bound to run into a Merc.

I went with my family to Norway when I was little, around the age of 8. I think we had a small layover at one of the airports, and I was really board. I looked down one of the air vents by the windows and saw a coin down there. So I dug down there, about 2 feet deep, through all the dust and found as least twenty Norwegian coins, mainly Kroner. That was the coolest day of my life up to that point.

I technically didn't find this coin but...
I was in Virginia on vacation and they had this massive Yankee candle store. In the middle of the store was a fountain. I look around in side and see, fairly close to the edge a buffalo nickel! There were so many people around that i didn't want to fish it out just yet. So i wait somewhere close where there was a bench. Then some kid ran over to the spot where the buffalo nickel was, fishes out some coins and throws them in. I couldn't believe my eyes. This kid just threw my buffalo nickel farther into the fountain (even though i was hoping his took every coin around the buffalo). Sadly he did throw it into the fountain, it was pretty depressing...
So my story is a AFOG story (almost found on the ground)

I have found a few wheat pennies on the ground in close proximity to the coinstar at the supermarket. I also found some nice early ones too, including some from the teens. My guess is that they are reject that fly out of the tray and roll away, or someone just throws their rejects.

My experience was FOS - Found On Sand! - I had a pretty interesting Metal Detector hunt last weekend. It was a very windy day so the gusts were blowing the sand in the direction towards the ocean. Small dunes were forming everywhere and I noticed that all the heavier objects were being uncovered but just sat right on the spot where they were previously buried.

Half the coins I found were just there waiting for me to grab! :wideyed:

On top of one dune was a beautiful silver ring with a huge red stone just gleaming at me. I wish I would of taken pictures at the beach but the blowing sand was distracting. Here is the ring. And toys and coins when I got home picture.

I can't explain this one and it's not a major find, but one day after a family get together at my home when cleaning up I found an 1897 Indian cent on the kitchen floor. All I do know is it was not one of my coins, I don't keep my coins laying loose around the house. So where this one came from is a mystery.

My Mom & Dad used to take walks -they would always find something. They collected the monjey in a large jar and cashed it in once in a while. It added up to $80 or more sometimes.

Nice. What are the largest coins? Half-dollars? A bit surprised that they'd make it out to the beach any more...

If metal detecting counts I have found a few.

2 dateable coins from the 1600's (165? Louis XIV Liard and 1696 William III Halfpenny) 3 other coin that I have not been able to pin down but are most likely 1600's Maravedis. 1723 Wood's Hibernia Half penny, a few King George II Halfpennies, including one made into a child's whizzer toy. 1774 King George III Halfpenny, 1786 NJ Copper. Also some other toasted colonial coins.

Mostly just cash, but I did find a gold ring in my garden once. Completely random especially since I live in the middle of no where.

As long as it's not my 69 Montego MX Convertible that I would dearly like to find on of again some day. Yes, I had this exact one. 1968 mercury.jpg
