Can anyone tell me what this is worth ,it's an 1857 Flying Eagle Cent cud. If not is there a web site that might help me? Thanks RockyPa
Hi rockypa, That's a nice coin you've got there. I really admire the flying eagle cent. It's one of my favorite designs. They just don't make coins like that anymore, do they? LOL I wish I could tell you that there was a price guide for 1857 FE cents with rim cuds, but I'm afraid such a list just doesn't exist. (at least I have never seen one) The actual value all depends on what any particular individual is willing to pay. It's all about finding a collector that's looking for that particular coin, with that particular error. I can tell you that rim cuds are not rare on early cupro-nickel coins, and "usually" don't command a high premium over coins that don't have rim cuds. But, like I said, if you match the right coin to the right coin buyer, anything can happen.
Hey rockypa, Welcome to the forum. Jody is quite correct. Errors are a little tough to put price tags on. The usual way to determine value would be to take the price in the grade the coin falls into and add a few dollars for the type of error. With cuds, the value does not increase much. The Flying Eagle cents are widely collected. If it were my coin, I would add about $5 to the price of the coin without the error.
