Hello, I am considering a Flying Eagle cent in the sub $40 price range for my type set. I am considering the following options:
    VF-20-S.jpg
    VF-20-v.jpg
    EF-45-b.jpg
The first 2 grade similar, while the 3rd one is a higher grade, but has numerous rim bumps on the obverse.

Opinions on these options? I like the detail on the 3rd one, but it is not in the budget to purchase a clean coin in that grade. If I did purchase I think I would look at the bumps and wish I hadn't bought it. How many point downgrade would these bumps bring? They are considerable size on a small cent.

Thoughts on the first 2 options?

    Thanks for your input.

Between the first two; definitely the first option. Way more detail on the reverse and has smoother surfaces

    Between the three, definitely #1.
Unless of course that is wood-grain toning on #2 in which case #2.

If the rim nicks are bothering you now, you will not like them in hand. Forget number three and choose your favorite of the first two. For me, I would take the first one, it has a nicer strike.

The third one is damaged. Keep looking. there are better coins out there.

Damaged or not, I prefer the 3rd coin, but if you don't want damaged, I would go for the first one.

I would go with #1 or wait for something better. No need to rush.
I don't care for the look of #2 or 3.

Thanks for the replies. I too was leaning toward #1. I have been looking for a while and am at the point where I always think there is something better out there. So I can never pull the trigger and buy one.. There may be (there were just a few minted :smile), but I may have to put another few years on looking to find it. For my price range I think I can take a shot at #1. I appreciate the honest feedback and quick replies. Thanks!

I don't like any of them. I agree--better choices out there for eye appeal.

These coins are in the under $40 range. I was going to go to a max of $50. If anyone would like to assist, feel free. I will take some options from anyone. :) I was hoping to achieve around a VF-20 grade problem free (as much as possible). I have been coming up relatively empty on my searches...

That one is better, although he might have to pay shipping on it. It has a nice wing. No problems. Its a little weak around the rims. i still think he can get better than that. Harlan is a good choice to pick one up.

I would suggest you spend a little more and buy an XF/AU.

How much better is he going to get than the one I posted? I'd jump on that myself for 43 bucks. Nice wing depth, corn leaves. Its a great 43 dollar coin.
