Found this coin in misc coin jar. The detail on feathers is great main issue seems to be dirt on coin. There is a scratch above the eagle that is more apparent in picture. Is this coin a $20.00 coin or a $500.00.

Should it be sent to an expert for cleaning and grading?

To be able to answer your question we need a little better pic. Now I am just guessing - but did you enlarge the picture ? If so - please post it without enlarging it. And it would be very helpful if could post a pic of the other side.

If all I had to go on was the one picture, I would say that it's an About Very Fine with surface problems.

Price? I don't see a problem with the $20 figure.

XF in terms of wear. There are a few problems on the obverse and would be net graded down from there.

It's neither a $20 coin nor a $500 coin -- it's probably more like a $50 coin, depending on what that junk is below the eagle's head. I'd net grade it Fine or VF, most likely, depending on the nature of that junk.

Sounds greater found in a jar with other coins! The junk on eagle's head and just below is there approved way to try and remove, should it be done, is it worth sending to a "service???

Thanks for the additional pics. As for sending it to be slabbed and/or conserved - it's not really worth it. It would cost more to do this than the coin is worth. The value range already provided is accurate.

Thank you all for information and advice. This coin stuff could get addictive.
