Not in hand yet so I enhanced the low-quality seller photo (rev photo was worse so its not included; I'll post my own when it arrives). It sure looks like Florian to me. Not bad for $14. Marcus Annius Florianus was praetorian prefect before the army of the deceased emperor Tacitus (Florian's half-brother) proclaimed him as Tacitus's successor in 276. Roman forces in the eastern part of the empire had also chosen their own military leader as emperor, Probus. The rival emperors and their armies clashed in Cilicia, but Probus's more extensive military experience helped him and his troops achieve victory over Florian. Florian's demoralized troops then assassinated him. He only reigned for 88 days. A later legend promoted by the von Blumenthal family of Brandenburg claimed that they were descended from Florian, and that after his death, his sons fled across the Alps and introduced viticulture to the northern Germans.
When I saw the title I thought for a few seconds you were sending me a happy new year gift, then I read the post Sometimes I forget how many Floridians there seem to be here. In all seriousness, congrats on your new usurper emperor coin. I can't wait to see what it looks like once you take decent pictures. I loved the bit of history too!
Thanks Sallent, but I will not push you off the wagon Hey we live close enough that if your lucky they might deliver to your house by mistake Florian coins are pretty scarce so I'm glad I got him at what I think is a good price.
Not bad for $14, Jango ... congrats on scoring yourself a Florian (can't wait to see the new photos) Ummm, here is a sweet example where I probably spent 10 x times what you just shelled-out ... but I've always loved the Providentia & Sol reverse on this cool ol' Florian coin
