Here is a Five Dollar Indian, 1912 in around VF condition. Boy-O-Boy does that camera ever highlight all the bagmarks. This coin looks NOTHING like the picture Bone
I know what you mean bone, I just posted some fench gold 20 franc pieces on another thread and two of them showed little nicks and scratches that are NOT visible without magnification, looks like someone shot bb's at them.So when you posted this $5,I decided to do a closeup of my ONLY older US gold coin,a $2.50 Indian 1915. But much to my surprise...check it out!
Try a 20 watt halogen directed toward the top of the coin at about 45 deg. You have to diffuse the light, try using a paper towel. This might give you the result you desire.
bonedigger, I swear that I really thought mine was marked up having never really looked at it through a good magnifier. It wasn't until I downloaded the photo from my camera and looked at it on my monitor that I realized how clean it is.It's a tiny coin you know, smaller than a dime. TallPaul is right though, light makes a big difference.A couple of times,my flash went off and the coin looks dismal.try not to EVER use flash. Shatsi,I bought this one about a year and a half ago for under $200 if I recall but I think they're higher now.Someone else can probably tell us.
