Picked this up for 30E Lucernae Auction. Antoninianus ND (261/2AD) Roma Mint Publius Licinius Julia Cornelia Salonina/ Augusta 253-68AD She was the wife of Emperor Gallienus. She and her husband were murdered by in Mediolanum by their own troops after they had defeated Aureolus.
Nice Salonina. I also picked up my first Salonina a couple of months ago. Egypt. Alexandria. Salonina AD 254-268. Billon-Tetradrachm 21 mm, 9,65 g Volume: X №: — (unassigned; ID 75575) Reign: Gallienus (sole reign) Persons: Salonina (Augusta) City: Alexandria Region: Egypt Province: Egypt Denomination: Tetradrachm Average weight: 9.76 g. Issue: Year 15 (AD 267/8) Obverse: ΚΟΡΝΗΛΙΑ ϹΑΛωΝΕΙΝΑ ϹΕΒ; draped and diademed bust of Salonina, right Reverse: L ΙΕ; eagle standing right, spreading wings, holding wreath in beak; to upper left, palm branch.
The only Salonina I have ever owned was this rather microporous and rough example. It was bought during my novice days as a Roman collector, when I was madly checking off ruler's names from my list, with little regard to coin quality. Still, despite the roughness, the portrait on this one wasn't terrible.
COR(nelia) SALONINA AVG(usta) / PVDICITIA There is also this one, not so well struck : FECVNDITAS AVG(usta)
@panzerman That's a lovely and highly detailed "first"! Here's a type not yet in this thread: Salonina, AE Antoninianus, Milan mint, 260-268 AD Obv.: SALONINA AVG, Draped bust right on crescent Rev.: AVG IN PACE, Solonina seated left with branch and scepter, MS in exergue Weight: 2.1 gr. Diam.: 19 mm. Attrib.: RIC 58.
It's difficult finding a decent quality silver coin of Salonina. Usually they are porous with very little silver content. Here are a few from my Roman Imperial Collection.
