So I am looking to get my first kennedy cause they've intrigued me as of late. I just picked this up from my local coin dealer. He had it priced at 20 and said he'd give it to me for 15. While im not a proof person and much prefer business/circulated coinage, I bought it. Should I keep it or look for a '64 silver business strike? All and all, over all thoughts on this coin? thanks.

I'd say a 2001-S silver Kennedy for $15 graded at PR68 isn't a bad deal. I've seen these for sale for above $20.

You got it below PCGS price guide value of $19, I'd say not bad. As Rodeoclown said, these are selling for over $20.

You did just fine on that buy, and a good looking coin to boot! :)

Your coin, your call. Is the other coin what you really wanted? If so, then you should have taken the time to find a suitable example instead of buying the 01-S. Do you like the coin you bought and will you enjoy owning it? If so, keep it and set your eye on the 64 if you really want one.

I love silver Kennedy proofs! The new (2010, 2011, 2012) silver proof sets are expensive, but their mintages are miniscule (relatively). I gotta think you can get some PF70s that should increase in price nicely over the next 70-100 years. :thumb:

Man...I sure hope Craigslist is still around when I'm in my 120s. :too-funny:

I collect kennedy proofs, so naturally I like your coin. I would stick with PR69UC, as these are very common and I dont think it would cost much more than a 68. In fact, I would say that for kennedy's proofs from ~1980 to 2012 are probably much more common in 69 than 68. ebay is a great place to pick up proof kennedy at affordable prices.

I probably would have bought that, although I'm not a collector for them. Nice pick up!

You did good. Just remember the coin you picked up is 90% silver and the melt value as of today is $9.82 so for $15 you got a nice looking coin.
