    FWIW, in 1962, my younger sister had open heart surgery performed by the medical staff at the Clinical Center of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. This was considered experimental surgery at the time. Another young girl the same age as my sister was also selected as a candidate for this procedure. As it happened, my sister survived the operation but the other young girl did not.
