I want to thank everyone that helped me in my other thread on the Heritage payment policy, and Yep I won the auction . Here are the pics I adjusted, I think the Heritage photos were too bright. What do you guys think? Guess the grade if you want, I'll post my pics once I get the coin, but thats going to take a while. lol and I couldn't decide on white background or black.
That is even a Morgan I could learn to love, congrats on getting that comment - normally I do not care too much for Morgans.
NICE A solid -65 and with the so-called " CC bump " might be a 66 in a holder. Congrats. Now remember to pay or the Heritage Guido will come looking for you
That is a pretty tight coin. Nice pick up. :thumb: Solid MS65 or a MS66 on a good day at NGC. SGS MS70 regardless though.
I think it is a Morgan MS65 and BTW - that must have cost you a pretty penny. A MS66 shouldn't have the overse marks in a prime focus area, IMO. I see almost no other marks worth emntioning, although it looks like is was a slider, at least on the reverse. Impressive Morgan. One of the best I've seen this year with a killer strike. Ruben
Take note folks how unintrusive the new NGC holder is on a coin this size, then go find a few small cents or halfdimes....you'll see my gripe on the NGC holders for smaller coins
I know it seems to be pretty common in the 84' CC. I've seen a few where it connects all the stars on the left side to the date. It is interesting, like Freaky said I'll have to check for VAMs once I get it, but I dont think any bring much of a premium.
I was looking at an '84 CC just tonight in the original GSA holder. Now I will have to go back and look for die breaks.
Toad you nailed it again! Tough graders tonight . IMO though this coin is a solid 66. Check out the original heritage pics 1884-CC $1 MS66 NGC. NGC Census: (671/85). PCGS Population (1317/57). Mintage: 1,136,000. Numismedia Wsl. Price for NGC/PCG..... maybe I made the images too dark (then again it is hard to grade without having the coin in-hand). Also if you look at the previous and next lots those are all 66s.
First off, I expect the coin will look even better in hand, and it will be a very very attractive coin. Just about all 66's are and I see nothing in the photograph to suggest yours is any different. [DISCLAIMER: BLUNTLY WORDED OPINION TO FOLLOW] That said, I think you overpaid for the coin -- even if it is a nice 66. Here's why.... 1) The market value of these coins is about $100 less than that, IMO. 2) These are not uncommon coins. You can get a hundred 66 Morgans at any show. There's no reason to pay a premium for this coin. 3) You bought it (presumably) sight unseen out of the Baltimore Signature auction. All the best and brightest in numismatics are at Baltimore, and they get to see the coins in-hand. Do you think for a minute that if the coin was a good purchase at this price then you would have won it? Please don't get the wrong impression, I'm not slamming your coin or you in any way -- I fell into the same trap!!! Bottom line: It is your money, and you are 100% entitled to spend it how you wish. However, I think there are far too many people who fall into the trap of bidding sight unseen at auction on coins they shouldn't and overpaying, and this is a prime opportunity to learn a very valuable lesson that you got cheaply (about $100) and have a chance to earn back. Respectfully submitted, hoping to help....Mike
