Well, Today I hit my first coin show. I guess I am officially a collector now. I found a about 8 nice Walking Liberty Halves that I needed. I also grabbed a couple of Large Cents as well. It was very cool. Much different than I expected. The coins that some people have, I can't figure out how they got that many. All the dealers there have HUNDREDS if not thousands of coins on hand. One gentleman had at least a half million dollars in coins there. I know nothing about coins but my god he had a collection that was amazing. I will be hitting every month, that is for sure !

Bruce, It was the monthly Scottsdale show held at the Elks club. Second Sunday of every month. I am hooked and will be going every month now probably. To me it was overkill......I did not know where to look first.
Where do you live ? I am new to collecting and would like to hook up with a fellow collector and view each others collections and maybe find someont that could "school" me in this coin game. Maybe you have some stuff for sale I would be interested in as well......

    Cheers !

I remeber my first coin show. I went NUTS! running from table to table drooling like a ravenous beast. It was a feast for my eyes. I still make sure to do that everytime I go to a show before I buy anything, just to wallow in the sheer coins.

A good coin show is worth attending just to see what's there.

Of course, the dealers prefer that you actually buy something...

I took Thalia to her first coin show back in March (Syracuse) and she was treated like a princess... we're going to our second this weekend (Buffalo/Cheektowaga) and I hope we'll have fun there too.

I'm not completely sure what my first coin show was, but I do know that I got my picture in the local paper that was taken at one when I was about 14 or 15. My dad still has the photo. And a show that was mostly world coins in Clifton NJ is still around, 20 years later. Might have to figure out how to do that one again sometime.

Yesterday was the monthly coin show in Auburn, MA. Yes some have many many wonderful coins.
For the first time I held a Panama 20 Balboa Proof. What a big fat hunk of silver!
I was going to rent half an eight foot table for $35 but don't know if I would sell enough to be worth it.
Last week I did find a suitable display box at a local flea market for $20. Those things sell for $110 or rent for $10 a day.
Given the recent spot prices I figure now isn't the time to sell.
Some dealer rents 2 tables every month. That's $140, I wonder how they turn a profit?

wow, my first show was bad. I was the only kid there and no one trusted me. I dont steal or anything, but when you dress in jeans and a hoody, then you get looked at like a thug...
