I went through my first box of half dollars and did not find any silver. But I did find a lot of Bi-centennial halves. I did not find any "S" mint. I found about 125 bi-centennial's and another 112 bi-centennial's that are very shiny. Not sure if they are proofs? Or do proofs only come with the "S" mint mark on them? So I found about 237 bi-centennial's in one box. I think that is a lot for one box or not? In the first picture with the two halves, the bottom one is one of the shiny one.

All bicentennial proofs were made in San Francisco.

Chewmassa Now where could my pipe be?

Thats a lot of bicentennials from a box of 1000. Is that typical?

Unusual, but I have gotten whole boxes of 1995P and D before. It's strange, beautiful coins, almost mint state which makes me think it's a Mint dump to Loomis. All in Loomis rolls but something I would expect in opening a U.S. Mint roll.

    Keep looking!

It depends on what they got from their bank. We once found 13 1987-D Washington Commemorative halves in a $1000 bag from our bank, all in gem-state. Those could very well have all ended up in one box.

I got a box of all 99D once. Usually get a lot of 99D all the time in the boxes I do.

That's what I thought. So these are almost mint state bi-centennial halves? I guess I should keep them. Not sure about the regular bi-centennials? I know some members of Coin Talk posted that they save them.

Not sure. This is my first box of halves. Hoping to see what other members think.

I just dumped almost three hundred bucks of bicentennial quarters back to a bank the other day when I was cleaning out my safe. I put them up on the BST for face value, and nobody responded. I had been dropping them into a bucket for years as I got them in my change and finally figured it was time to get rid of them. There is a little bit of a premium for rolls on eBay, I just didn't feel like shipping out one roll at a time for a few dollars profit.

Your bi-centennial find rate was 23.7%, or not quite 5 per $10 roll. I have not tracked how many bi-centennials I have found in over 60,000 halves searched since I started CRH in January. But if I had to guess, I would think somewhere around 15-20%. There are a lot of bi-centennials out there, collectively 522 million P&Ds were struck. I've kept several rolls of the best ones and now turn all the rest back. Still looking for a proof though.:wacky::wacky:
