For the last 2 years, i have been working on collecting a banknote from every country in the world. This week, i have finished my goal. I just bought the last 3 and am waiting for them in the mail. I have uploaded scans of about half of them to photobucket which i will post a link to if anyone wants to see them. some countries i have got several notes from, and some just one. I am excited to have accomplished this, i wonder how many others have? or is anyone else trying to build the same collection? i am going to keep buying and collecting, trying to build a series from every country now. I should have the other half of my notes scanned and on photobucket soon. i didnt buy any euro notes, but i did collect a pre-euro note from all of the e.u. countries. http://s1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd501/kforbes862/
Congratulations on finishing such a daunting task! While I have not attempted to complete such a feat, I can appreciate it. Thanks so much for sharing.
Why not try for all countries that have created paper currency, including now defunct countries like the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, the post-WW2, pre-reunification Germanies, etc.
i do have notes from ussr, yugoslavia, czechoslovakia, east germany, french colonies that issue currency, i.e. tahiti, and british territories, bermuda, isle of man, jersey, guernsey, cayman islands. the only 3 territories i am missing are northern ireland, saint helena, and the falkland islands, which i should have soon. besides a few very obscure territories and former countries, i think i have something from everywhere. I even have notes from biafra.
Impressive! Do you have a note from the world's newest country, South Sudan? They became independent on July 9, 2011 and recently issued their own currency, the South Sudan Pound.
That's a tough set to build. I've been at it for years and I still need something like seven countries. My list isn't completely up to date but I still need Dutch West Indies, French Afars & Assis, French Sudan, German New Guinea, German Southwest Africa, Tangier, and Turks and Caicos. I may have picked up one or two of those recently.
Very very nice! ! I have been collecting currency from all the countries I've been to but next year I plan to set out on a journey without a set ending as of so I plan to aquire alot of new currency. Someday I think ill try to go at this same feat.
I do have an idea for you to extend a collection like this. Lately while folks are losing good faith in the dollar, there are new currencies popping up all over the US - specifically in more rural areas of the country. I bet it would fun and interesting to collect all of the different currencies like that... I would if I knew how exactly to acquire them... What I find real iteresting is that the BEP was asked by a news reporter to comment on it and what they had to say was somewhat interesting and surprising to me. They said that there are no laws limiting transactions in the US to the dollar - that any form of currency may be used. I guess it makes sense though if I break it down in my mind - it's just like trading.... -tbud (if anyone knows how to get them, I'm all 'ears')
Nice job! So what does it feel like to be "done"? I've never imagined it... like the others I'm guessing you'll find a way to extend the collection. Dave
