I live in the Triad area of North Carolina. Most of the banks around here say they do not have any rolls of half dollars. They act as if half dollars are a big bother and don't want to deal with them. Where did the multiplied millions of halves go?

Try another bank. Or take a drive to another town. They are out there!

Just don't go to Credit Unions - because they are where I find the best coins.

The only time my bank had actual rolls I found a '64,They usually always have several dollars in loose halves and are happy to get rid of them.I haven't found anything from the loose halves other than a '72 proof though

I visit a lot of banks. I would say I have gone through about $300 worth of halves this week and found one 1968. But a certain bonanza last year keeps me going.

Banks often make you feel like a pain in the behind when you want rolls of half dollars. Some tellers don't even know what a half dollar is. My advise for you is to either find a teller that knows their stuff or speak to a bank manager. Since Kennedy Half Dollars are still legal US tender, I'm fairly certain that they will order them for you if you're persistent. They may have volume requirements, so be prepared to withdraw in the hundreds of dollars. To be completely honest, any rolls the bank has in stock were probably deposited by someone just like you, who already picked out any silver or Franklin Half Dollars.

I have terrible luck with halves. I've only found a few 40%ers, never even found so much as a 64. But I've heard about people who find multiple Franklins and even walkers! So it is just luck of the draw.

I love halves, though, despite my bad luck, because they are so much fun to search. They are nice, hefty coins and fun to sift through. Finding NIFCs is cool.

Getting them is the tricky part. You can go to any old bank and get a box of dimes, they'll even thank you for them. But halves, you gotta order them, the teller might even turn you down flat.

You guys could learn a lot from my experience. I used to go in and just ask. I figured out after awhile that I would have to train everyone and well I schmooze. I am not above taking in boxes of nice chocolates or assorted candies and being friendly. Amazing, my phone actually rings with banks on the caller ID. Tellers can actually be your friends.
