So I wonder if someone could help me find an old thread. The way I remember someone posted a coin that was for sale, probably on eBay, that they questioned the authenticity on. It was seated coinage, I don't remember the denomination, I believe a quarter or half dollar. But it had an incredibly weak, mushy-looking strike. Some of us were all over the coin, sure it was fake. Some of us even messaged the seller, telling him his coin was a really bad fake. Well, turned out the coin was real. I'd really like to find the thread if someone could help me! I'm not having any luck. I joined in 2015, so it was after that. Thx!
I think I remember a thread or two like that, and I might even have posted on it, but I guess that doesn't narrow things down much at all.
That was a worthwhile (re-)read, but I wish we'd gotten an official result on the coin's authenticity.
My god there's a lot of blah blah blah in that thread. I don't see anything confirming that it turned out to be genuine. Maybe it was a different one.
Yes, I think that's it! Thanks. It doesn't look quite like I remembered. But I am thinking it also wound up on either the NGC or PCGS forum and some pretty respected people thought it was probably OK. Made me more cautious about loudly denouncing coins as fake, though I just don't buy coins that I question... Thanks again!
