That's a nice looking coin with a great portrait. I love the expression on his face. He looks like he is constipated.

    Wonderfull coin, Ro

But I think its an As not a Dupondius
As: laureate head - Dupondius: crowned head

    Nice coin ro!

Generally, that is a good way to tell. But, during this time period, dupondii could be laureate, like ro's coin above. It's indeed a dupondius, despite the bust being 'laureate'.

Well that explains it, thanks David. Now I have to check my other Domitians whether they are dupondi or as coins.

recently I learned about a reduced sestertius of 7,5 gram, pff.

congrats again Ro with your beautifull Dupondius.

Is it the weigh/size that separate the denominations?

RIC calls this one an As.

    Capture.JPG

But Sear calls it a Dupondius.

    Confusing.

Great coin @ro1974, Congrats!!! Lovely dupondius!!

I would've thought it was an As too. Luckily, we have David :)

I also love that strained expression---- like Domitian is grinding his teeth in exasperation as another story of his Dad's and brother's exploits are retold again! LOL

More recent scholarship (the new RIC II.1, Sear) calls this type a dupondius. I think it's safe to stuck with that. ;)
