So I've been more or less searching for a 72 Type 2 Ike for a while (despite already having an ANACS graded March dies example in my collection) I've really wanted to find one at face value cause thats how I roll  Well...I finally got one!! Funny thing is that a friend of mine that works at a bank saved me 195 Ikes that a customer recently brought in. I was looking through those and most were bicentennials and 72's...my thinking was they were probably saved by someone that thought those might be worth something one day or they were looking for a type 2 as well (because literally 40-50% were 72's). Well there was nothing good there. I even checked the 2 or 3 71D's for the friendly eagle...no dice. So I go to dump the 195 into the bag I had around 100 Ikes in already that I got maybe a year ago. The plan was to take them to the bank and cash them out for some silver or gold. I paused and said to myself.. "ummm I don't think I ever checked the 100 in the bag!" Well I don't know if I ever did or not, but the 2nd to last coin was a 72. And viola! A type 2!! Low-end AU (and Ike has some schmootz on his nose), but I'll take it any day!
The other thing is looking at the die markers I'm almost sure it is a March die variety of which there are only an estimated 20,000 out there. While still rare, the August die has an estimated 150,000-200,000. So the March die is the more rare of the two die pairings!
Yep I probably looked and didn't see it the first go-around. Thankfully I was lazy and never took them to be cahsed in!
