Ive gone through hundreds of dollars of halves and almost never find NIFC coins. Today, 6 total 2018-D from just 4 rolls. Score!!
Congrats on the finds but I've come to the conclusion that halves dated 2018 aren't NIFC. Solid boxes of halves dated 2018 are turning up in circulation. I've found quite a few 2018 halves this year myself. It seems the government saw fit to replenish its supply of circulation-bound halves. This is not entirely surprising considering 2001 was the last year halves were minted for circulation. Even though they may not be NIFC, it's still fun to find these nice shiny halves that have been freshly minted and to save an example or two that aren't too nicked up.
All my area has are recycled coin but you still can't get new coins or halves in my area. If you ask at a bank you'll be sorry.
Should I be saving these things? If so, I'm not. I throw them back. I hope you guys that want them, find them.
I’m inclined to agree @NOS. In 4 Brinks, I have found several hundred 2018-D halves (some in each box). Weird considering only 4.8 MM were minted. Guess I hit a vein out here in CA.
Nah, they're only face value unless MS67 or higher. I personally haven't seen any yet, so I'll keep one or two of the best of these and spend the rest at Taco Bell or something
Something is up. I have found four 2018P's so far this year, all in MWRs. I am in South Florida and only get 8-10 rolls of halves per month.
If you ask at the bank you'll be sorry! Truer words couldn't be said If I said them myself! I don't know your exact location but I'm sure we're very close to each other. I don't know what it is around here but they hate when you ask. HATE>
Really? Why? At the couple banks around here they trip over themselves trying to push all the halves they had. Just last time, I asked one teller if she had halves. Another one across the room overheard and ran over offering me some more from his drawer.
The tellers around here hate coin roll hunters and half dollars are the first thing we usually ask for. They know. They are on the defensive right away.
The NIFC's are lower mintage so people save them. However, because they don't circulate the survival rate is always going to be close to 100%. There's really no market for them at this time. I suppose good specimens might be worth .55 or .60 cents, but for that, you might as well just spend them.
