Bought it from a guys personal collection, it was pretty beat up - so he gave it to me for 2$. The date was half readable (the '56). and as long as i can read the date, im good. note: i plan on getting a much nicer one sometime next week.
Mag, I love those little guys.I have two,one (1851) OK condition and the other one (1852) is about like yours on the obverse. These were the only 2 years that they didn't triple outline the star or include the foliage over and under the III on the reverse. Unfortunately,I didn't get either of them for $2.
hah, i have no idea what happend to it - but for 2$, i couldnt say no. when i get a newer better 3c piece i'll post pictures of that too Mikjo0, that 2nd one does sorta look like mine, but yours is in better condition.
It's pretty far gone, but you can't walk away from the chance to buy something like that for $2. I would have bought it too.
It occured to me that some of you might never have seen one of these tiny things in person. The first time I held one,I wondered how they could ever have been used practically because they are almost ridiculously small and paper thin. Here is a comparison pic.
I would have paid $2 for it. I think these are a little underrated and are going to become harder and harder to find in the future. I just hope that doesn't happen until I can get one for my typeset.
