Finally found one in an auction ending at what I figured was a fair price for what will probably grade fair. This is in my opinion one of the nicer worn ones.
Yup, I agree with your FR-02 grade. Looks like a nice, wholesome piece. Even in this low grade, these are still in high demand.
Nice eye appeal for the grade, and good obvious mint mark which isn't always the case on worn 16-D's. Nice score.
Yes there are many mercury dimes that aren't as evenly smooth in the wear spots. I see a lot where the reverse is like pitted or rough. It really looks nice in hand in the sunlight
I still remember the day I walked into my LCS and bought a 1909-S VDB Cent. A week later I bought a 1916-D Mercury Dime. Both were a long time ago. The Cent was in Fine and the Dime was Extra Fine, at a cost of $325 each. My ex stole both of them. I have another 1916-D Dime butbits only in Good condition. It fills the hole in my album. I also have a complete set of $2.50 gold Indians, which I never had before so I'm happy.
