While browsing art galleries in Lahaina on Maui, I found a very creative use of Susan B. Anthony dollars. The body is also composed of state quarters, dimes and the right eye is a keelboat nickel. While I did not take the time to count the face value of the coins in this piece, I did inquire about the price, which is $42,000. Although this would be a crass way to look at it, that would be a pretty good return on investment.
I think its a really neat idea and I'd like to have one or something else made from coinage... I think its a cool idea... But, it creates a few questions... First, How did they arrive at $42K??? Is that figuring a huge rate per hour for the artist? I don't see any way there is $42K in coins and Bills... Second, Are the coins permanently attached??? How was that done??? They may be re-useable/Spendable... Not sure whats up with the Bills either...
For a gallery piece, that's not that unusual. It looks like the artist is accomplished based on the metal work on the face. I'm guessing there is around $1,200 total in coins and bills although I cannot see the entire length or what the tail is made up of (in bills I would assume). Someone will pay that much for that piece just to show it off as a status statement. Neat piece of art, I'd rather have a nice painting or drawing though.
Wow, that is neat. I doubt $42,000, but still very nice. I agree with USS, I go around $1200-$1500. Still, very nice! :thumb: Phoenix
I agree, finally someone found a use for those coins, I guess that it is better than spending them as quarters.
