After searching just shy of $1k in nickels I have found my first Buffalo Nickel - a 1935. I was just wondering when/if I would ever find one. Also found a 1939d in God awful (that's putting it nicely) shape. Just figured I'd share. I'm pretty happy at the moment :)

I Love nickels! They are my favorite coin to coin roll hunt. I've never found any buffalos. Best I've got was some war nickels! Congrats on the find! :smile

I have yet to find a buffalo as well. I have found plenty of war nickels (don't get me wrong, I am not upset to see these), but I would love to find a buffalo. Congrats on your first and good luck!

Great for you. I've found about 8-9 Buffs over the last year of searching (I search about $100 worth a week).

Now I am waiting for my first Liberty nickel.

I've found 6 buffalo nickels (3 dateless and 3 dated). I found the three dated and one of the dateless before I even got a $100 box. The '37 was an ender. Buffalo nickels.jpg

I have found 8 war nickels so far which is like one for every $125. I thought they were a wee bit more common than that, like one a box, but I guess I can't complain too much. I have found a whopping 8 09's, all in the first two boxes. I haven't seen one since.

I found 2 war nickels in my last box, what kind do you get ( CWR, BWR, or the feds?)

Ask and ye shall receive...got $20 BWR nickels at lunch and got my first Liberty nickel - a very crusty, corroded 1899.

Nice! I'll never forget the first time I got one in a roll. I was doing about a box a week starting in January. In the 3rd box I believe, I spilled the roll out onto a newspaper and when I saw that buffalo looking back at me I almost jumped! And then...I got another in the same box! It was a little anti-climactic the 2nd time but still awesome ;)

I've gotten a total of 3 buffalos in around $900 searched. 12 war nickles in that same bunch. I've since moved onto dimes and have gotten 59 silvers in 30 boxes this year...again, about a box a week or so. The best was 6 in a box (interestingly enough in my first one!).

When I was a kid, you could still get Buffalo nickels in change. For some reason I was always more excited about finding one of those than silver.

I'm not sure where exactly they are from. The boxes are brown cardboard and the rolls just say "2 Dollars Nickels" or "50c Pennies". I get them from my CU. I've been getting dimes from them $50 a time and I've only had luck with their CWR (4 roosies). All of the wrapped rolls from their delivery company have been crap. I did get two silver quarters from them a week or two ago which was nice :) I've been doing mostly pennies but after my last 4 boxes I'm done with them for awhile. I just pulled 11 wheats out of 2 boxes. A lot of work for such little result. I think I'm going to go to to 2 boxes of nickels and a box of dimes.
