I saw others pick this coin up, so i figured I'd join in because it was a lovely design. And now that I have it in hand, I noticed that the background has this very cool wave in it, to really clinch this design. Say what you want about the Perth mint, but their designs are often wonderful. The weirdest thing about this coin was that the queen on the reverse is very poorly struck.

They are nice coins no one saying that these PM issues' are bad but problem is these silver NCLT are very poor at retaining there premiums' there are few exception (deadly & dangerous, Great warr, Discover Australia).

I guess it depends if your looking at it as investment of precious metal. I personally don't view a coin such as this that way.

Tortoise is a popular animal on a Fiji coins since the colonial period.

I got this one as a gift. I love sea turtles. It's a nice coin.

  8. I have one Taku for each of the first three years (2010-2012) and agree that the design is really nice. I believe it is New Zealand Mint and not Perth Mint though. I have been able to buy all three at close to spot as well. TC

Yes, it's definitely from the New Zealand Mint. If it was a Perth Mint product, it would have at least a 25% premium on it just because.

Just picked up a 1 oz High Relief Kookaburra and 1 oz Black Rhino "wildlife in need" and have to admit I'm starting to really like some of the Perth Mint Products. There's a premium on them but not much worse than what our mint whacks us for our coins. Wish the US Mint would produce some colored, different shaped or holographic coins and cut the crap of repackaging their product. Do we really need 3 coin ATB quarter sets, presidential dollar sets and first day covers? Regular proof sets aren't even worth buying as you can get them at steep discounts well after market. Now we gotta buy "S" mint quarter rolls to complete our ATB roll sets!! Can't wait to see the pricing on the 2 coin silver eagles sets coming out next week.

I wish the US mint would just do something tasteful and artistic... GOD FORBID

We NEED TWO Grover Cleveland Coins.

I would rather have a Grover Coin

I saw that turtle coin a few weeks ago and I really like how it looks. I usually stick with ASE's and Maple Leafs though. I might pick one up just because it looks nice.

I like the Kiwis from the New Zealand Mint also.

There are many different interesting and well-designed world bullion coins out there if you look around a little bit. The redundant ASE and Maple Leafs are just the tip of the iceberg. It's like getting away from meat and potatoes for a while and realizing there are a lot of outstanding world cuisines consisting of many levels of flavor that are definitely worth trying. I just made myself really hungry for some Thai food now. Anyway, just my opinion.
