Let me know what you think of these pickups today

I'm worried about this one because it might be harshly cleaned. What do you think?

    Nice Ruben. Was it crowded?

Nah - small show, not too much of a crowd.

The Draped Bust half definitely exhibits signs of cleaning on both the obverse and reverse, though from your pics, there does not appear to be any obverse hairlines. The reverse, on the other hand, definitely shows some signs of an insufficiently affectionate rub--some apparent hairlines in the upper right field.

Unless you paid a full "problem-free" retail price, I wouldn't worry too much about it. That's a tough coin, and your specimen has great details, at least 45 I'd guess (knowing literally nothing about the series), and maybe 50.

Is it the Large 3 or the Small 3 variety?

    I have no idea. I paid $50.

Something looks dead wrong about the draped bust half. And the $50 has me skeptical about authenticity or if it was stolen.

Really? Numismedia (NGC) Fair Market Value has the 1803 Small 3 (the less pricey variety) listed at $2,460 in problem-free XF-40. So even if it were graded as 40 details, harshly cleaned, it would still be worth several hundred bucks, Mr. Mayor of Brooklyn, one of my favorite places in da woild!

Definitely cleaned, but there are no immediate signs that it's counterfeit. Suppose it's possible, but not easily detected from your pics.

Small 3 is the more pricey type. If it is original VF/XF details, it is worth between $400 and probably 1k

    Big price jump from VF-XF

Quite right, Hullcoins, and thanks! The Small 3 is the pricier. I was looking at the Numismedia FMV page right before typing, and I still got it wrong! A senior moment, I guess.

But you confirmed the hypothesis that Mrbrklyn's coin was worth a few more shekels than he paid for it, and that was my main point.

And I apologize Mrbrklyn for getting your title wrong, as well. It's CEO of Brooklyn, not Mayor. Just as well. I want to be Mayor!!!

I just don't see any dealer sell that for $50.

I have to go with not genuine on the 1803. The only 1803 with the leaf to the extreme right base of I is O-102 on the reverse. But that variety is the large 3 variety with stars 7 and 8 close to L-Y in liberty, but this one does not have that. So this is a fake and I can see it at $50.

Do you think it's a contemporary counterfeit or a modern day one, Mark?

Okay - now that I looked at the bust dollar book and noticed in his other pictures it says bust dollar it could very well be a B-6. So I went with others saying bust half, but the minute I pulled out my bust dollar book I could see the differences and successfully attribute it.

PS - Even though I can not attribute the bust dollar I still will not say it is genuine since I have only handled a few of these.

Wow, I blew that one off as a half. The Dollar is even more valuable, so I really don't think someone would have sold a genuine bust dollar for $50

The Feb 2012 Gray Sheet has the 1803 bust dollar listed at $1,000 in good condition. If it is a fake, then it is a nice example of one; if it isn't, then that is a heck of a deal.

Do you agree with the BU grade for the 1896-O Morgan? Nice coin. Big price bump from AU to MS60.
