Hello, I did talked with my local coin shop but he can’t determine if this coin is silver or nickel. Problem with other sources, it didn’t show weight for either ones. I did tried using magnetic and it didn’t pick it up and my local coin shop said that it may not be an reliable answer because the coin should show “.999”, sterling or any mark to ensure it’s a silver coin. I did compare NGC coin with 552 and 552a, I can’t find different between both coins. I wonder if you have any tips on how to determine its silver or nickel version. Here’s picture of both sides... Thanks.
good question, H & K doesn't mention how to tell the difference, but.. due to the colors, I would say not silver. the reverse just doesn't look like a silver toning
Thank you for your inputs. Paddyman98: I took your suggestion and here’s result. The second picture included quarter clad from 1970 and its BU quality without tone. Let me know if it still reliable? I think I might need to redo the picture as its dimmed.
Hello cointalk fellows, I have an answer to the coin that I posted here. I appreciated your input and suggestions. Now, PCGS has end the mystery and stated it’s HK 552 Silver Coin. Here’s picture... Based on information I can find, it has been limited to 1,000 silver coins. My coin is PCGS’ fifth coin to be graded between 62-65. NGC already graded 49 coins between 61-67. NGC coins has been spotted at eBay and history showed NGC has been in marketing while PCGS has no history of selling same coin that I have. Is there any reason for that? Thank you for check it out and able to solved the question that I had.
