Now that I completed my BU Franklin set, I spend my time upgrading. I was at the shop yesterday looking at a nice 1948D. I told the dealer I'm looking for FBL coins. He told me they don't grade Franklins by FBL because it doesn't make a difference. Looking for coins on ebay, it looks like FBL Franklins get a premium. Why would this dealer tell me that?

Maybe, because he feels if he can distort your perception of reality he can peddle his inferior junk Franklin's on you. ;)

    I agree!
I know of a few dealers who do not bother grading their Franklins by Full Bell Lines… Until they get one, then it’s off to get slabbed. Franklins with the FBL designation certainly do bring a lot more money and most “dealers” know this.

This guy is well into his seventies. I thought maybe he said that because he couldn't see them!!!

Some of these FBL slabs are expensive. I finally got a 1962-D NGC MS64 FBL for a price I was willing to pay. You can get the regular MS64 dirt cheap. There are two FBLs on ebay. One for $65 and the other for $68 Buy it Now. I paid $43 for mine.

I would not trust a dealers opinion on any grading If he could not see the bell lines on a franklin.
