When I acquired a collection from a banker's estate, this was the favourite note, and one I cannot let whence the rest are sold: How can you not fall in love? American notes really were beautiful once upon a time, nearly 100 years ago.
Yes - What he said!!! To bad the US would never print a note like that today! I can see RickieB adding this note to the list of notes to aquire! Thank you for sharing!!! Darryl
Actually this Lancaster note is from Ohio, not Pennsylvania. All the better this note has a portrait of Ohio Senator John Sherman, famous as the originator of the Sherman Anti-Trust act, as well as the brother of his fellow Lancaster born William Tecumseh Sherman, General of the US Army in the War of 1861-1865. The note is unreported in this denomination and date so far as I know. I have only Michigan and Ohio Nationals.
HAHA you are right. I never even saw that was actually written on the note. i did a google search gor lancaster, and everything said PA! i just couldnt find the state written on the note earlier today
Great looking note. The art work is just plain beautiful!!! But here's something to think about if they had this note circulating from 1902 to 1908 with a vignette of a young lady showing a bit to much cleavage then why would they change the design of the 1916 quarter that also showed a bit to much cleavage? Lou
Awful lot more people saw the quarter than the $50. $50 was well more than a couple of months wages for most people at that time, and most people would have never seen one.
My son totally loves trains. I'm thinking that this could be a new theme for him (or rather me as I would be doing all the buying).
